Student Ministry is Parent Ministry

The youth ministry is NOT meant to take the place of the family. The two should work together.  Yet how many parents will take the time to find out what is being taught during Bible study time so they can supplement it at home?  Too many times, they are interested in a ministry for their kids, and not with their kids.  For effective ministry to take place, it takes a commitment from the parents.

How can parents be involved?  Encouragement, support, hosting events at their home, chaperoning events, driving their teenager and his/her friends, giving, making sure their teenager is there, publicly supporting the student ministry to their young person, driving on a youth event, making sure their teenagers brings his or her Bible to church, and the list could go on and on.  Each year, we will have several parent meetings where we communicate major information to parents and talk about issues relating to parents.

What Parents Can Do To Support Our Ministry
  • Bring your students to events and programs.  You know very well that a teenager’s plate can get very full very fast.  They have school, homework, sports, and about 100 other things to do.  All of these things are good, but very few of them can make an eternal impact on your child!  The benefit of your teenager having Godly friends and learning God’s Word will reach far into his or her future.  As Paul said, what is available to me is not necessarily helpful.  We have seen many students “drop out of church” for various reasons, and more often than not, this leads to wrong choices.  As a parent, you are the guardian of your child’s schedule.   Don’t let your young person get too busy (even busy at good things) that they miss out on God’s best. Understand, it’s not about our programs or ministries.  Honestly, ministry will go on with or without your young person.  This is about your student receiving God’s blessings.  Our mission is to take students from where they are to where God wants them to be.  Sports, clubs and jobs are important, but pale in comparison to the greatness of God and his mission.

  • Stay informed.  Know the details about the events.  Check the mail, the website or call the church office.  There is always an event that is right around the corner.  Get the details and get your student signed-up.  There really isn’t a good excuse for not knowing what is happening.

  • Volunteer.  You can help us on any day of the week, for as little as one hour.  Isn’t it amazing that schools need the PTF to function properly?  Well, we need parent volunteers at our events.  Whenever you see an event advertised, we need help with it.  We always need parents to volunteer to drive, help with food, fundraising, etc.

  • Pray and give.  You can pray for our ministry.  We even have a specific prayer list we can make available to you.  And when special events, trips, or camps come up, we need financial support.  You can help in that way.
